US law (SB134) requires all Californian dental clinics to display this
"WARNING NOTICE OF DANGEROUS DENTAL PROCEDURES IN CALIFORNIA DENTAL CLINICS”
PROPOSITION 65:
WARNING: Dental amalgams used in many dental fillings, cause exposure to mercury, a chemical known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm.
WARNING: Root canal treatments and restorations including fillings, crowns and bridges, use chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer."
On January 7, 2003, the Supreme Court in San Francisco approved the warnings on dental amalgam mercury that are required under California’s Proposition 65.
On July 11, 2003, the Dental Board of California voted 7 to 1 to direct all dentists to give patients a dental materials fact sheet that will advise patients that mercury fillings can harm the developing brain of a child or fetus, and that such fillings cause exposure to mercury, a chemical known to the State of California to cause birth defects and other reproductive harm.
